Today after some language placement testing, we walked over to the municipal gym to get information about enrollment/signing up for social sports, then wandered over to Congreso, down Avenida de Mayo to the Casa Rosada, headed into the San Nicolas area, ate lunch, and then walked up to Plaza San Martín and over to Recoleta in search of the cultural center.

We saw the Congreso building (please pardon my crooked photo-taking and inexpert photo-merging):

And a weird building on a corner near it, which seemed to have a windmill sticking out of it:

At the other end of the Avenida de Mayo, here's the Plaza 25 de Mayo and the Casa Rosada (I can't hear the words "Casa Rosada" without thinking of the line from "Oh what a circus" and then getting songs from Evita stuck in my head for a while):

I didn't take any other pictures until we were back in Recoleta and Jake had headed home. I was pretty tired, but after buying some juice from a kiosco and sitting down for a while under these trees,

I decided I might as well see the church and cemetery while I was in Recoleta and didn't have any homework (It's about a 25 minute walk from where I'm staying in Retiro.)
This church next to the Recoleta cemetery dates from the 1700s.

I didn't have a guidebook or anything with me, so I just wandered in the cemetery until my camera ran out of batteries. I probably walked by some famous mausolea without realizing it.

Even the cities of the dead require maintenance:

There aren´t many pairs of 2.5 inch heels that I would consider doing so much exploring in, but luckily I bought a pair just before coming here that is capable of such a walk without killing my feet. In fact, I have no new blisters today!

That isn´t to say my feet weren´t tired by the end of it all, so I took a bus back to Retiro. The buses are really convenient, and they only cost about A$1.1o-1.20 (about US$0.35 or so)
